Partnerships

TRAILS bridges the gap between research and real-world impact through strategic partnerships across community, government, and commercial sectors. Our work translates academic insights into practical applications, policy guidance, and deployable technologies that advance trustworthy AI in practice.

Community Partnerships

TRAILS members co-developed new community-engaged research initiatives, including an initiative with the Prince George’s County AI Taskforce and multiple universities and healthcare organizations.

Government Partnerships

TRAILS has provided expertise and strategic guidance through partnerships with NIST; contributions to the AI Action Plan and AI supply chain debates; and consultations with federal agencies such as the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration and Capitol Police, and state agencies like the Maryland Responsible AI Council (MRAC) and the Maryland Department of Justice. The institute also launched an AI study group in collaboration with the Congressional AI Staff Association.

Technology Implementation at Scale

TRAILS researchers are advancing large scale use of our LLM hallucination detection, synthetic content detection, and smoking cessation chatbot technology beyond the academy through founding REL.AI, integrating Binoculars into Wikipedia, and linking BeFreeBot with the NIH National Cancer Center’s SmokeFree.gov.
