TRAILS is cultivating a diverse pipeline of AI-literate citizens, researchers, and professionals through educational programming that reaches thousands of students and educators annually. By integrating trustworthy AI principles grounded in our research across K-12, undergraduate, and graduate education, we're ensuring the next generation is equipped to develop, evaluate, and govern AI systems responsibly.
K-12 Summer Camps
Since 2023, TRAILS has hosted linked trustworthy-AI-focused K–12 summer camps and undergraduate research programs at the University of Maryland, George Washington University, and Morgan State University.
Graduate Programs in AI
TRAILS has supported the launch of a new AI master’s degree at the University of Maryland and an AI graduate certificate program at George Washington University that robustly address AI trust and trustworthiness.
AI Professional Learning and Resources for Educators
TRAILS is developing and delivering high-quality, research-informed professional development and instructional resources for both K–12 and college educators focused on AI literacy, ethics, and pedagogy.
Applied Research on AI Literacy
Our researchers are advancing the validation of AI literacy and self-efficacy curriculum and assessment through implementing and evaluating educational programming.
Student Research
TRAILS engages student researchers across disciplines in AI-related scholarship and dissemination. In 2024-2025, 38 students presented 45 posters at three major events hosted by TRAILS.
